Newsgroups: Adoptees

Abused Adoptees
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com
This list was started for those adoptees who were not blessed to be placed in good homes and need a safe place to be able to discuss their experiences without being criticized by others. This can be for adoptees who are still searching for their birth families, have already found, or adoptees who are not searching.

Although the list owner was blessed by a wonderful and loving adoptive home, she had many friends from other lists who were not as lucky and recognized that they too need a place just for them to safely share their feelings. The list owner will be very strict in warning ANYONE who joins this list and criticizes another member for their feelings about their family in a way that is hurtful or defamitory. If warnings do not suffice to cease any abuse or flames, then that subscriber will be banned.

This list is for anyone who is an adoptee who was not placed in a loving home, or anyone who is a friend of an adoptee who was in such a situation and wants to genuinely learn how to be more empathetic to that friend.

To anyone who wants to join this list to cull e-mail addresses for advertising, do not bother to join this list.

So for those of you who needed this place, this list belongs to you. I made it for you, and together we will decide what rules will need to be made as we go on. Currently the only thing that is respectfully asked to not be included in e-mails is "preachy" religious sentiments. Since we all come from different experiences, we need to respect each others' personal views and keep the religious tones fairly nuetral. i.e., no instructing people to turn their lives over to God, etc. It was decided by the first members of the list that they would prefer NOT to have religious sentiment expressed on the list, so please be sure to respect their own personal feelings as well. The only rule is that each list member respects each others experiences and does not flame anyone for their opinions.

Family-Ties Adoption Search
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com
This mailing list is for every adoptee and birthparent!! However in order to insure a safe searching area for adoptee's and birthparents. Please feel free to post adoption searches, advice, support, pictures of biological family members and yourself if they will help you find your family members. I will NOT endorce any regulations on this mailing list that might prevent you from finding your family. The ONLY restriction that I must enforce is that NO x-rated material or links allowed.

So join now!!!! Good Luck to everyone!!!

All new members will be monitored for a short period due to a rash of punks who feel the need to join lists simply to submit x-rated emails and links. When these emails come through I will delete the emails prior to the list members seeing them, remove and ban the member. I will continue to do this until these low life scums find some where else to spread their charm.

Also, I am in the process of created/updating the website and the database. I want the database to be more interactive and allow the members the ability to take the search in their own hands. Its so difficult to find what could be a match only to see there is no way to contact the poster except through the website owner who could be off doing whatever so you wait and all to often wait longer then most can tolerate. This new database will allow both posters and viewers the ability to contact each other, compare notes and decide for themselves if they wish to take it to the next step.

Adoption Parenting
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com

/showurl.php?url=2053 ADOPTION PARENTING: This e-group provides information, resources and insightful advice from professionals and from "parent experts". Sponsored by EMK Press (www.emkpress.com), a publisher of adoption books for children and free resources for parents.

Please note you need to be parenting adopted children in your home to be a member. A questionnaire will be emailed to you upon application and we need the answers to be able to approve you.

This is not a chat list, rather a venue to exchange ideas and to look at differing parenting philosophies, based on the topic at hand. Each of us approaches the how-to's of parenting our children in different ways, and we want to share what works, what doesn't and when to look for guidance outside our parent-circle.

The format is a topic driven and topics last for a period of 2 weeks to allow time for parents to respond. We encourage submission of ideas, questions and articles by all participants. Comments should center on the topic if possible. Topics will be archived. PLEASE NOTE: REPOSTING OF THE TOPICS ON OTHER LISTS IS NOT ALLOWED. Instead, please send a link to this group.

While all parenting viewpoints are welcome, we respectfully ask all posters to allow for free expression in a supportive and non-judgemental manner. Religion and politics have been voted off the list, so please be respectful of our diverse membership. Kindergarten Rules are in effect: play fair, talk nice and flush!

Single Adopters
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com
The aim of the network (with members across the whole of England as well as a few in Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland) is to share information and be mutually supportive throughout the adoption process, from before beginning to become parents and beyond. The aim also is to help children develop and continue links as they grow. Membership is open to all single adopters regardless of where they are adopting from the UK or abroad. Adopted children are from China, Guatemala, USA, El Salvador, Turkey, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, UK, Russia and Paraguay. We are in telephone and e-mail contact as necessary and meet monthly, mostly in the London area. We meet mostly on Sundays from about 1:30pm either at a child friendly venue or at each others homes bringing food and drink to share. Members volunteer to host meetings and can suggest other days, times and venues to suit our needs. If membership were to become more evenly spread throughout the UK more meetings or get-togethers could take place outside the London area.

The group first met 2.2.97 in Acton and numbers at meetings vary depending on the venue. We have around 100 members now with widely varying experiences of the process and at various stages from the very beginning to completed families. This includes a few who have stopped the process either by choice or due to other circumstances.

We are fairly informal and have not rigid criteria for membership. There are no membership fees or newsletters just this Yahoo Group which contains a membership list and dates of meetings and is a tool to disseminate information.

*Pending Members!* Please note that Single Adopters is a restricted membership group. You will need to check your email to access the required pre-approval screening information. If you signed up for a Yahoo ID and did not select an alternate email address, this information will be sent to your Yahoo mailbox (visit Yahoo Mail to access).

Attach Adopt
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com

/showurl.php?url=2115 AttachAdopt is designed for adoptive parents to share information, ideas, techniques, and support with one another as we seek to build bonds of attachment with our adopted children. Potential Adoptive Parents are also welcome and encouraged.

"Attachment Parenting" is a parenting philosophy and practice centered around building and maintaining an empathic, cooperative relationship with our children rather than a power-over relationship with them. AP has the goal of maintaining that close bond and connection as the children get older, allowing for well-adjusted and self-assured kids as they grow into adulthood. We will discuss concepts from the work of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth on Attachment Theory, as well as the work of others in this field.

This group will encourage discussion about all means of fostering attachment, but will not focus on attachment disorders or treatments for such disorders. Rather, we will seek to work together to develop strong attachments with our kids.

In order to keep this group a friendly, supportive, inviting place for everyone, all members should remember to interact with kindness, compassion and respect whether asking for ideas, offering suggestions, agreeing, disagreeing, or just sharing information. No discussion of corporeal punishment of children will be permitted.

Flaming and rudeness are not OK here, and please no discussion of politics or religion, (unless/except as they present challanges to your attachment with your child). We will not discriminate against any person, race, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion. That should help to keep it a safe and happy place for all :).

Growing Up Heathen
groups.yahoo.com groups.yahoo.com

/showurl.php?url=2109 This is a mailing list for those who are interested in reading more of Deedee's stories in the "Growing Up Heathen" series.

Now before you get all upset over the title, please understand that these are stories about my youth, growing up in the late fifties and sixties on a Native American Indian Reservation. When one is a member of a minority, folks who aren't members of that particular minority make a lot of judgements and may have some pretty strange ideas about any ethnic group that is different than the dominant majority.

Native Americans have had many myths and misconceptions put out there about them since first contact here on what we call Turtle Island. One of these is that most are 'Heathens', which is wrong. Each Tribal group had their own Spiritual Belief system, Ceremonies, ways of praying and of living on Our Mother the Earth. The fact this was different from the incoming peoples didn't make their ways wrong or non spiritual.

Much of racism and prejuidice is about having unspoken and unchallenged myths by one group about another group. When those remain unchallenged, they remain unchanged.

These stories, even though they are told with humor, are also about challenging unspoken ideas and thoughts, from a generation ago, in the hope and with the intent that we will discover some truths in ourselves that might bear looking at, talking about, and maybe, just maybe, changing a little bit in the present.

So, you are invited to settle in, find a comfy spot, and let's take a trip back in time, to a place where things were simpler, everyone knew their neighbors, most folks new the difference between right and wrong, and I was having a great time, 'Growing Up Heathan'.
